Athos knows that Aramis has his share of dramatic behaviour, but this is an accurate statement of the situation he is in. "She is not dead, neither is her son," Athos feels compelled to remind Aramis. "Even if they are out of your reach, in this fashion." They are still alive and Aramis, too. It is not the worst of all situations.
